My Common Cold Essentials

As a SAH/WFH Mum of Two Little Ones

Getting sick as a stay-at-home, work-from-home mum hits differently. There are no sick days, no real pauses - just tiny humans who still need snacks, cuddles, answers, and you, even when your body is begging for rest.
So when a common cold shows up, I focus on doing what’s realistically supportive - gentle habits that fit into life with a toddler and a preschooler under my feet.
Rest Comes First (Where Possible)
Rest is always my number one priority when I’m unwell - even if it looks different in this season of motherhood.
This morning, we all slept until 9:30am. I know how lucky that is. My girls love a lie-in, and on days like this, that extra sleep feels like gold. It’s not perfect rest, but it’s enough to take the edge off and help my body reset.
A Simple Morning Ritual
As soon as I was up (and before the day fully took over), I had a teaspoon of honey topped with a full garlic clove. It takes seconds, requires no prep, and feels like one small way of supporting my immune system before the chaos begins.
Once the kids were settled, I made a peppermint tea - warm, calming, and something I can sip while answering questions, opening snacks, and checking emails.
Easy, No-Fuss Nourishment
When you’re sick and feeding children, meals need to be simple.
For breakfast, I had Greek yoghurt with chopped apple, banana, and orange. No cooking, no standing over the stove - just quick nourishment that works for everyone.
Later on, I listened to a craving and ate kimchi straight out of the jar. Fermented foods are something I naturally reach for when I’m run down, and honestly, some days convenience wins.
A Gentle Energy Boost
Instead of pushing myself with coffee, I made a matcha with mashed banana and honey. It’s softer on my system and gives me a gentle lift - perfect for a day that still includes parenting, light work, and being “on” even when I don’t feel my best.
An essential I always add to my matcha is Sweet Bee Organics Inner Glow, whisked in before the matcha powder. Especially on days like today, when a full skincare routine and a Pilates class feel out of reach, Inner Glow is an easy, one-step way to support my skin — simply added to my morning brew.
Choosing Slowness Without Guilt
And then, as much as possible, more rest.
That might mean slower work, quieter activities, extra screen time, or saying no to anything non-essential. As a mum, it’s easy to feel guilty for slowing down - but I’ve learned that caring for myself is caring for my family.
Healing doesn’t need to be complicated. Especially in this season. Rest where you can. Nourish simply. Lower the bar.
That’s what support looks like for me right now - and it’s enough 🌸
