(From a Very Tired Mum of Two Toddlers)

Happy new year everyone! This is OUR year all my wellness girls. To kick start our wellness 2026, I wanted to reflect and give you guys some honest goals I have set for myself this year.

1. Prioritise Rest (Without the Guilt)

This year, I’m officially done glorifying exhaustion.

For so long, I’ve worn being tired like a badge of honour - because that’s what mums do, right? But constantly running on empty doesn’t make me a better person.

In 2026, rest is a priority, not a reward.

That doesn’t mean eight hours of uninterrupted sleep every night (I have toddlers, let’s be realistic). It means:

  • Going to bed earlier instead of scrolling

  • Saying no to things when I’m already overstretched

  • Letting myself sit down while the kids play instead of “being productive”

Resting doesn’t make me lazy. It helps me show up calmer, more present, and more patient, which benefits everyone in our house.

2. Move My Body in Ways That Fit Mum Life

Exercise used to mean long gym sessions and structured routines. Now? If it doesn’t fit around nap schedules, childcare, and my energy levels, it’s not happening.

My goal for 2026 is simple: move consistently, not perfectly.

That might look like:

  • Walking with the buggy

  • A 20-minute workout during nap time

  • Stretching on the living room floor while my toddlers climb on me

  • Dancing in the kitchen with the kids

I’m letting go of “all or nothing” thinking. Even 10 minutes counts. Especially on the days when everything feels hard.

3. Nourish Myself (Not Just Feed Everyone Else)

This was something I really wanted to focus on last year and one of the main goals i was so proud of myself for impimenting healthy changes into my everyday

Not with strict food rules or diets, but by:

  • Eating regular meals instead of skipping them

  • Adding more whole, nourishing foods where I can

  • Drinking more water (and reheating my coffee… occasionally)

  • Letting go of food guilt

This isn’t about “bouncing back” or changing my body. It’s about having the energy to keep up with two tiny humans who never stop moving.

4. Protect My Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing

Motherhood is beautiful and overwhelming, isolating, and emotionally intense at times. This year has reminded me how important it is to look after my mental health, not just push through.

In 2026, I want to be more intentional about supporting my emotional wellbeing by:

  • Checking in with myself regularly

  • Talking openly about how I’m feeling

  • Asking for help when I need it (and accepting it)

  • Creating small moments of calm in my day

That might be five minutes of quiet after bedtime, journaling when my mind feels full, or simply acknowledging that some days are hard — and that’s okay.

Looking after my mental health isn’t selfish. It helps me be the mum my kids need.

5. Model Healthy Habits for My Children

One of my biggest motivations for focusing on wellness is my kids. They’re always watching, always learning.

In 2026, I want to model:

  • Balance, not burnout

  • Kindness to my body

  • Rest without guilt

  • Movement for joy, not punishment

  • Speaking to myself with compassion

I don’t want my children to grow up thinking mums must always come last. I want them to see that taking care of yourself is normal, healthy, and important.

Even if they don’t remember these years clearly, the environment we create now matters.

A Gentle Reminder to Myself (and Other Mums)

These goals aren’t about perfection. I won’t hit them every day, and that’s okay. Some weeks will feel like survival mode, and that counts too.

Wellness as a mum of toddlers isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what supports you, in the season you’re in.

So here’s to 2026: a year of realistic goals, self-compassion, and taking care of ourselves alongside our little ones.

If you’re a fellow mum reading this — you’re doing better than you think 💛
